What Type Of Roofing Is The Best?

This is one of the most common questions we get asked. You want to get the most bang for your buck when having to replace your roof system. We get it!

So, how do you know which system is right for you? The short answer is; it depends! (Booo!). Here is the long answer:

How Big Is Your Roof?

The cost and overall ROI of your roof system depends on the size amongst other factors. If you have a large, steep roof, you might consider that when choosing the best system for your home. The larger the system, the more money you are going to spend regardless. It might make the most sense to install a basic asphalt shingle system.

On the other hand, not having to worry about replacing your large roof system every 5-7 years might make more sense with an upfront investment for a longer lasting system. A more durable standing seam metal, stone coated steel or polymer slate system will last a lifetime from that single investment.

Where Are You Located?

A major consideration to what roofing system is best for your home is where your home is located. In Oklahoma, tornadoes and hail storms notoriously blow through every spring. If you find yourself in the wrong place, odds are you will be replacing your asphalt roof consistently. Choosing something that is built to withstand higher winds and hail might be worth the investment.

In a states such as Nebraska, South Dakota, Michigan or Montana, high winds affect your home constantly. Choosing a high wind resistant roof system is definitely a consideration. Determining the type of weather in your region is a great place to start when replacing your roof.

All About The Benjamins

At some point, it all comes down to the money and what makes sense for your bank account. The key factor here is determining and understanding the value that you will receive with each system.

In comparison to buying a new vehicle, you can get a basic package that gets you from point A to point B. It does the job, but you miss out on the bells and whistles and what those bells attribute to the experience. This is attributable to an asphalt system. Its a good quality, reliable roof that serves it’s purpose.

However, you could upgrade to the next trim package that comes with heated seats and all-wheel-drive. Keeping you warm in the winter and getting you through those snow storms might actually be what you need. It might make more sense to upgrade to a metal standing seam roof giving you the added safety of more severe weather.

Then again, all you high rollers like what the High Country or Denali packages offer you. Cooled seats, surround view cameras, technology and safety packages, and not to mention a upscale stylish ride. You might be more interested in the Slate or Stone Coated Steel systems. Although these systems come with a higher price tag, you get a fully customizable roof with the added benefits of keeping your home secure for the remainder of your home’s lifespan.

Consider the value you are paying for when figuring your budget.

As a roofing contractor, one of my favorite parts of this process is installing something that is going to accent the cosmetics of your home. This can be a part of your selections process too. The good news is that most of these options offer multiple colors, designs, and details for even the choosiest home owners - without having to break the bank.

It is important to consider the colorscape as well as the design of your home and surrounding area then choose a system that coincides with your style preferences.
